Fear the Walking Dead, AMC's original series has finally throw some light on why and how zombies infected the world of The Walking Dead; how the dawn of the zombie outbreak started, and how two families struggle to deal with the sudden changes in their already troubled lives.
1. The differences between the two shows involve more than just semantics.
It's a pure prequel! Whereas The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes woke up from a coma to find the world he knew destroyed, one of this show's stated goals is to depict the crumbling of society. Season 1 will showcase a lot of the elements, how people will adapt to violence and etc. things that are taken for granted because [the original show goes] from zero to zombie fairly quickly." - TV Guide
2. The show is very family-oriented.
As the story goes, everyone is living in the apocalypse, ultimately no one is safe. The creators want to see family survive, the core family survive, but they also want everyone to see what the apocalypse is going to throw at them. Entertainment Weekly
3. What to expect from AMC's companion series?
Unlike the original show, there's no love triangle," showrunner Dave Erickson says. "It's not about Shane's (Jon Bernthal) love for Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). And now Rick's back and it's not like, 'You lied to me. I didn't lie to you.' Which is also something (creator) Robert Kirkman pitched very early. It's just a solid relationship. Nobody cheated on anybody. Travis' last marriage didn't work, it's nobody's fault. It happens, which could be a little bit bland, but I think it's honest on how it goes down." Hollywoodreporter.com
4. Title was originally called "Cobalt".
The name "Cobalt" was officially changed to Fear the Walking Dead by the end of the production. They wanted The Walking Dead in the title. But the creators didn’t want The Walking Dead: Los Angeles. They’re already using "Fear" as shorthand, as they think it speaks to what the characters are going through. Entertainment Weekly
Title was officially announced by creator Robert Kirkman on Twitter:
IT'S OFFICIAL! The walking dead companion show on AMC is called FEAR THE WALKING DEAD! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead— Robert Kirkman (@RobertKirkman) March 27, 2015
5. The spinoff has a slow buildup, not with its characters, but with the zombie world.
According to executive producer Dave Erickson:
"We purposely built the show a little bit more slowly than the original. We tried to slow burn the story [and] make it as much about the anxiety and tension and paranoia that goes with this outbreak as much as it is about the actual confrontations with zombies.” Inquisitr.com
